In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ?
(Screenshots taken from my music video)
Shot number 1 shows a link between lyrics and visuals as here the song lyrics say 'and you call me a bitch' and at the same time the male character says 'bitch'.
Shot number 2 typifies the way a record company would want their artist to be represented as the artist here is dressed casually and wearing a flowery bracelet, the flowers are typical iconography of an indie pop music video. The audience can relate to the female character more as she is dressed casually.
Shot number 3 illustrates how my video uses music genre as the music video is set in a pub which is a typically normal setting for our audience so they can therefore again relate to the video.
Shot number 4 shows an intertextual reference, this being the typical storyline between the artist and the male character, the relationship between a boy and a girl and how it falls apart. This is a storyline that the audience can relate to as it happens in everyday life
Shot number 5 demonstrates my use of camera in the video, I have used a high angled shot her to make the artist seem smaller to represent her sadness from her failing relationship and her isolation as a result.
Shot number 6 demonstrates my use of lighting in the video, here I used a key light to light the scene so we can see the artist clearly
Shot number 7 demonstrates my use of mise-en-scene in the video, the music video is set in a bar, this is clearly shown from the bar stools, the bar and the taps
Shot numbers 8 and 9 are two shots which I feel demonstrate something which I have seen in other music videos (See below)
(Screenshots taken from existing music videos)
Shot number 1 has been taken from the Kaiser Chiefs' video 'Everyday I love you less and less'. This shot shows a link between lyrics and visuals as the song lyrics say 'I feel it in my bones' and we see the band members dressed as skeletons.
Shot number 2 has been take from Train's video 'Hey, soul sister'. This shot typifies the way a record company would want their artist to be represented as here the artist is wearing a cross necklace and is dressed casually, making the character relatable to the audience as he seems normal.
Shot number 3 has been taken from Jake Bugg's video 'Lighting bolt'. This shot illustrates how the video uses music genre as here the artist is shown singing whilst playing the guitar which is typical iconography for a singer song writer, again the character is dressed casually and the audience can therefore relate to the artist.
Shot number 4 has been taken from The Script's video 'Breakeven'. This shot shows an intertextual reference, the storyline here uses the same relationship based storyline as my music video which is heartbreak.
Shot number 5 has been taken from Ellie Goulding's video 'The writer'. This shot demonstrates the use of camera in the video, I have used this shot in my own music video, here it has been used to show isolation and lonliness.
Shot number 6 has been taken from The Killers' video 'When you were young'. This shot demonstrates the use of lighting in the video, here they have put the light being the band member, creating the effect of a silohette it also gives it a more stylistic quality
Shot number 7 has been taken from The Script's video 'Nothing'. This shot demonstrates the use of mise-en-scene in the video as this particular scene in the video is set in a pub, this is shown from the bar that he is leaning against, the drink next to him and the crowd that is behind him. The red lighting behind represents his pain from his break-up.
Shot Number 8 has been taken from The Script's video 'The man who cant be moved'. This shot shows the character dressed casually, in shooting my music video we made sure that all the cast used dressed casually, as mentioned before, this makes the audience relate more to the characters as they are dressed normally.
Shot Number 9 has been taken from Tenth Avenue North's video 'You are more'. This shot shows how the the music video features chalk board writing, I have also used chalk board writng in my music video, this is featured in the instrumental introduction.
